Ideas for couples and adult conversations

Talking about BDSM: preferences, roles and boundaries

For adults aged 18 and over. Every activity is optional and requires everyone’s agreement.

An interest in BDSM is a starting point for a conversation. Adults can talk about the words, roles or fictional themes they enjoy while deciding separately whether they want any activity. A message or profile status does not settle that decision.

Explain what your words mean

Two people may use the same role label and imagine very different experiences. Ask whether the interest concerns conversation, fiction or something else. Name what you are curious about in everyday language, then invite the other person to describe their own preferences. Avoid treating a label as a complete agreement.

Agree on limits and a pause

State which subjects you welcome, which need another conversation and which you want to leave out. Choose an unmistakable way to pause or end the exchange. Revisit the agreement whenever the subject changes. A previous yes, an accepted invitation or a skipped message does not replace a current answer.

Start with conversation in Lusya

To talk with another user, create an account, choose a nickname and send an invitation to an adult you would like to meet. Once accepted, ask whether they want to discuss the topic. Keep personal information and media optional. End the exchange, block or report a user if they pressure you.

Questions before you start

Does a leading or following status mean consent?

No. A status can express a mood, but you still need a specific agreement about the conversation. Either person can change their mind or end the exchange.

Does this guide teach physical BDSM techniques?

It covers communication, expectations and the right to decline. It does not provide physical techniques or assess whether a particular activity is safe for you.
